AT&T uverse

I recently switched to at&t Uverse. Basically, with my atrocious cable/internet bill from Time Warner, I was interested in an alternative.

So far I'm pretty happy; I like the TV menus better, and haven't noticed the internet being slower.

When I was looking up Uverse, I noticed that a lot of people were bashing the HD capabilities; Since I don't give a waffle about HD, I have no opinion on this matter.

I still haven't tested my new internet connection out while playing WOW, though.

Save the Date Originals

It's not surprising that this should be my first topic after I've started a blog; Running this online business takes quite a bit of time.

When my sister was planning her wedding back in 03, she looked me at her artwork-doodling sister and said "hey, where is my wedding stationery?"

And so it was that I got started on graphic design and digital printing, headed right into a niche in the wedding industry. Since my sister got me onto the theknot.com messageboards with her, I ended up with a lot of friends who happened to be getting married at the time, and things went from there.

*On a side note, I am still friends with many of the women I met there- this was the first really diverse network of woman I'd run into online.

My website Save the Date Originals mainly deals with save the date magnets and cards for weddings. But there was no reason for me to restrict myself- I've worked on corporate invitations, promotional materials, bridal shower invitations, wedding invitations, thank you notes, baby shower invitations, engagement announcements, car door magnets, family reunion newsletters, favor tags... the list goes on.

The best way to break it down is this:

I offer custom and personalized designs for printing on magnets, cards, stickers, and more.

I was not expecting to have quite the success I had; Many start up businesses go nowhere quickly. It may be that while some people are good at graphic design, they don't understand all the issues related to manipulating images towards print ready graphics (resolution, color scheme, and bleed/safety margins always seem to try newbie designers up). It may be that I'm actually able to draw/paint, and not just manipulate photos and text I find online, allowing for a wider range of possible designs. Or maybe it's just that I'm laid back, friendly, and wasn't after people to order from me- if they decided to great, otherwise, I have plenty else to do. Whatever the reason- I've had fun running this website, and plan to keep it up for however long I feel like doing so.

Post the first

I've decided to start a blog, for the same reason many other's have- just for the heck of it.

About me:

I go to the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee for computer science; I run a business online called Save the Date Originals (a graphic design type thing, offering printed magnets and cards).

For many people, it's best not to put too much information about themselves on the internet. For me, however, when I started selling online, I needed to make it clear who I was, and that I was legitimate. People are right to be wary of online vendors- it's easier to scam someone when you do not have to meet them in person.

I dabble in artwork, I can program, I like to read fantasy and science fiction novels.

I also have a tendency to write novel-length emails to family and friends; Hopefully, having a blog on which to prattle will alleviate that particular feature of mine.
